Mads Tolling & Jacob Fisher in Concert.

The Danish-American Songbook.

Denmark has proud traditions, when it comes to playing jazz violin. The Danish-American Grammy Winning violinist Mads Tolling will add to the legacy, as he is joined by guitarist Jacob Fischer. The two have played over 100 concerts together in Scandinavia and North America and recorded an album available on this tour. Mads and Jacob will play treasured songs with deep roots in both American and Danish culture.

Denmark have many great psalm writers from the 18thand 19thcentury, including N.F.S. Grundtvig and B.S. Ingemann. While they were writing great melodies and lyrics, the US went thought independence and civil wars. However, in the 1920s and 30s some great songs were written in the US, coming from George Gershwin, Fats Waller and Cole Porter. These songs came to be known as standards and later jazz standards - the American Songbook was born. With a foot in each continent, it interesting to see how these great traditions will mesh.

This concert will be treating the audience to music from “Grundtvig to Gershwin”.
